27: Private Credit - The New Frontier in Property Finance
In this episode, we dive into the world of private credit, what it is, how it has emerged as an alternative funding source and why it’s becoming an increasingly important part of Australia’s capital stack. We explore where private credit fits in alongside traditional lending, the types of returns it offers and which asset classes are most attractive to investors. Chris Moyle of Argyle Square also shares insights on whether further regulation is needed, the risks and opportunities shaping the sector and what the future of private credit in Australia might look like.
Chris is the Joint Managing Director of Argyle Square, a Melbourne-based property investment manager and private lender. With more than 20 years’ experience in property lending across Australia and the UK, he has held senior roles at Westpac, NAB and as Chief Investment Officer for a Buxton family-backed investment manager. Over his career, Chris has delivered finance for some of Australia’s largest developments, with extensive expertise in transaction origination and execution. In 2022, he co-founded Argyle Square alongside Rob Altson and Costa Asset Management, the investment arm of the Costa family.
Tune in to gain valuable insights into how private credit is reshaping Australia’s lending landscape and what it means for the future of property finance.
